What does a Psychosomatic Therapy session look like?
Each session is structured into incremental steps. It begins with a psycho-dynamics section, typically lasting no more than 30 minutes. This includes psycho ‘unravelling’ or analysis, where we discuss your background, traumas, fears, beliefs, body discomfort, body awareness, timeline, and familial history. This allows your facilitator to ‘read’ you, understand your belief system, tune into your energies, and assess your nervous system. Schema therapy may also be employed to identify maladaptive behaviours, uncover underlying causes (e.g., adverse childhood events), and highlight recurring thoughts and emotional patterns. This process helps you settle into the session, fostering a sense of ease and safety before moving into the body work.
The session then progresses to full body works, which includes vagal activation, coherence techniques, musculoskeletal work such as fascial release, trigger point release, dynamic stretching, and much more. The duration of body work depends on your appointment type (Online or In person) and with whom is guiding you (Danielle or Coach Amy).
Each session concludes with a 10-minute feedback segment, including biofeedback and discussion of your aftercare plan.
What does an ERT session look like?
An Energy Realignment Therapy (ERT) session is a gentle, energy-based experience designed to support the nervous system, Chakra system, and Spinal Flow Gateways. Sessions begin with a brief discussion to understand your current state, followed by guided energy work to release stagnant energy, recalibrate the nervous system, and restore alignment. Techniques may include nervous system regulation, chakra sequencing, spinal flow activation, and gentle somatic guidance. In-person sessions last 90 minutes, while online sessions are 75 minutes, and each session is designed to leave you feeling calmer, more grounded, and energetically balanced, with tools to integrate and maintain these benefits beyond the session.
What is the main difference between Psychosomatic Therapy and ERT?
Psychosomatic Therapy works with both the mind and body. It involves psychodynamic approaches, belief decoding, timeline exploration, and hands-on somatic work such as fascial release, neuromuscular techniques, and biodynamic interventions. This therapy is ideal for those ready to engage deeply with their mental, emotional, and physical patterns through more intensive, practical body works.
Energy Realignment Therapy (ERT), on the other hand, is energy-based. It focuses on Nervous System Regulation, Vagus Nerve Healing, Chakra Alignment, and Spinal Flow Gateways without invasive body work or psychodynamic exploration. ERT is gentle and subtle, making it ideal for those who may not be able for the more hands-on somatic approach, including children, pregnant women, older adults, individuals in high pain, or those simply seeking nervous-system-focused reset.
What happens if I am late for my appointment?
Arriving on time is essential. Late arrivals will result in a reduced session length, with your appointment finishing at the originally allocated time. If you arrive early, please wait in the designated waiting area until your therapist collects you.
How many sessions would I need?
This is not definable, and yet a very common question.
It is completely dependent on the capacity at which your Nervous System is currently operating at, the magnitude of somatic imprints stagnant in the system, the tension and rigidness in the body, and the active neural patterns that are active on a synapses.
Clients absolutely need more than one session. While on average, most people will need a solid 12 months of both neuroplasticity practise and body works (including bioplasticity) to see and feel withstanding long term autonomic changes that are hardwired and programmed in on an embodied, cellular and systematic level. The ‘best’ results I have witnessed are from those who have gone all in, and completed the 12 month guided programme ‘A Journey of Higher Conscious Awakening‘.
Do you offer discounts?
No. Firefly Somatics™ does not offer student discounts, reduced fees for lower income, free scholarships, or barter/energy exchanges. We also do not process health insurance claims. We operate as a professional service and maintain the integrity and standards expected of such practice.
Do you faciltate house calls?
We do, within reason, and only for clients who are physically unable to attend in person. There is a charge for the travel time and distance covered. This will be subjective to your location which can be discussed with Danielle.
Can I book in for just body works or a once off session like a massage or Reiki?
No. At Firefly Somatics™, we work with integrity, prioritising the holistic needs of each client. Our approach is designed to support Neuroplasticity and the regulation of the nervous system. We facilitate clients in undergoing deep somatic healing and lasting embodied change; this cannot be achieved through a one-off session. There is no magic wand!
Every client begins with a thorough pre-assessment, and ongoing aftercare is an essential part of the process, providing guidance and tools to continue supporting the nervous system at home. This is why we offer contained 12-week packages rather than single sessions—each element, from the session itself to the aftercare, is integral to creating lasting change. When you work with us, you experience this full spectrum of care and support throughout your journey.
If I sign up for a somatic package, can I add on an additional session?
Absolutely! You can discuss this with Danielle. Rather than paying for an additional package, as you are already signed up as a client, you can add an extra session(s) on to your package if you feel to. This session(s) can be used within your 12 week package.
How do I book an appointment?
Contact us through our Contact Form. Please specify what type of session you are enquiring about and the therapist you are seeking to work with. Danielle oversees all bookings and must be confirmed through her. Due to limited availability, upon requesting an appointment full payment is required to confirm and secure your appointment. We do not hold appointments. Receiving the exchange is the confirmation and shows the person is 100% all in. Policy can be found by following the link below, please be sure to read this carefully.
How are consultations facilitated?
All consults are organised online, using video calls. You will be sent a call link 10 minutes prior to your meeting to access the waiting room. In person meetings are exclusively assigned to full appointments, due to limited space and availability.
What do I need to do before my session?
Upon booking you will be emailed a link to a preparation folder with all relevant forms and documents. All clients must complete the various assessment forms, a liability waiver with consent for physical touch, a media release form and an NDA to protect The Firefly Method®. These forms must be returned no later than 48 hours before of your scheduled appointment, giving your therapist space and time to thoroughly go through your assessment documents. Within the media release form you have the option to give or not give consent for video footage to be taken, or indeed to specify what you are comfortable with e.g. face blur. You can opt out fully. This is your journey, we are here to assist you and adhere to wishes and boundaries.
You will not be facilitated without the forms signed, and email returned to Danielle 48 hours ahead of your session.
What should I wear for my session?
As your therapist will be implementing body manipulation and neuromuscular techniques, working on manoeuvring and releasing the myofascial system, it is best to wear small shorts and (for women) a sports bra. Some clients like to wear only underpants. No need to worry, you will absolutely feel safe! We will also keep you wrapped up warm with fleecey cosy covers, and the heating will be on, keeping the room temperature up. The less clothes the better as your therapist will be better able to perform the body works, which means you will gain more from your session.

Is the shaking and tremoring safe?
While it may appear “scary”, and may feed into fear and resistance, I can promise you it is SAFE. Shaking and tremoring is the Nervous System’s natural way to release stress energy from the body. When we effectively activate our Vagus Nerve, it can stimulate the signalling of various neuro transmitters and neuro-chemicals that induce involuntary movement outside of conscious awareness (ie neuroception) One being Acetylcholine, the chief neuro-transmitter of the Parasympathetic Nervous System. Acetylcholine (ACh) works at the synaptic junction with secreting cells, intrinsic nervous fibres, and smooth muscles. It binds to nicotinic and muscarinic receptors and stimulates muscle contractions in the Parasympathetic Nervous System. ACh is secreted at the nerve terminal, and excites the cell bodies. Motor neurons pick up on this information via the efferent vagal fibres of the vagus nerve, and carry this neuronal information to the muscle cells. This in turn causes the involuntary swaying, shaking and moving you see in the various footages. The shaking is bio-feedback that safety is being signalled within the system. Please know that this is SUBJECTIVE to the capacity at which you are neuroceptively operating.
People who are in dorsal vagal frozen state, dissociation and disconnection, it is likely you will NOT experience a nervous system release Too often I see people place expectations on self, and disappointment if they do not have a neurogenic shake. Nervous system recalibration and psychosomatic alignment involves so much more than “having a shake out”. Firefly Somatics™ mission is to support you in locating the inception point and root cause of your inner pain, incoherent inner dialogues, somatic misalignment and nervous system dysregulation. We support you in finding safety within, with an overall goal to help you develop a coherent pathway where you feel deep connection to brain-gut-body-neurology -sensations.
Does the tremoring mean that the trauma is being released from my body?
You need to understand neuroscientifically what ‘trauma’ is. It’s not an event, rather it is the systematic and physiological overwhelm caused internally, not the actual event(s) The shaking is the Nervous System releasing stress energy that was accumulated through constant states of mobilisation which resulted in low allostasy, chronic wear and tear on your neurobiological system, most likely resulting in systematic dysregulation and inability to recover from stress. You can experience the shaking when you are also regulated. The shaking is merely the by-product of the Nervous System naturally recalibrating itself, induced through the secretion of various neurotransmitters and neurochemicals, stimulated by the Vagus Nerve.
How long does the shaking last for?
This is subjective to the person, the capacity of their nervous system, the magnitude of tension and rigidness in the somatic body, and how safe one feels. I’ve witnessed people in involuntary release from 5 minutes to 60 minutes. It is completely subjective.
You will always receive what you need and process what you are able to in any one given session.
Generally, as clients grow deeper connection to Self and the body, the more extensive and longer the releases. Usually delving into the bigger traumatic memories will render in extensive and ‘hard’ involuntary shakes. I’ve also witnessed that as someone regulates and the nervous system tapers off, the releases become a lot more gentle and subtle; almost snake like movements up through the spine.
Can I experience a release in my first session? Is it common that some people do not go into releases?
Yes and Yes! But… We do not chase a release!
We are seeking the inception point and the root cause of your inner pain, incoherent inner dialogues, somatic misalignment and nervous system dysregulation. We are seeking to signal and program into safety and coherence. Depending how dysregulated your system is, how safe you feel in your body, and how safe you feel in your external environment, will dictate what information the Vagus Nerve is signalling. This is outside Conscious Awareness and runs on Neuroception. Meaning, you cannot control it as it is autonomic programming. Some clients shift into release state in their first session, while many others do not. I’ve witnessed this many times. It is totally dependant on how safe you feel in your body, if there is subconscious resistance and fear, if Vagal Tone is really poor, and of course, the capacity at which your Nervous System is currently operating at on a baseline. It’s like learning how to drive a car. Could you drive on the first attempt? Most likely not. Retraining your Nervous System takes time, consistency, repetition and patience. Do not attach to ‘having a shake’, and place expectations on Self. The primary goal of Nervous System regulation is to instil safety.
So ask yourself after each practise, how safe do I feel in my system right now on a scale of 1-10. That is your answer if you are doing the practise ‘right’.
What do people report feeling while in an involuntary release?
This is really dependant on the individual and where they are at in their psychosomatic and nervous system healing journey.
For some, the first ever experience can feel strange, as you are not in control, the unconscious body is. When neuroception is in the driving seat, you cannot control what the body does. This can feel quite obviously unfamiliar and ‘weird’, at first. It is like trying anything for the first time that you have no lived experience with; you’re unsure but also super intrigued.
Others report a sense of complete calmness, peace, surrender and lucid state, cathartic, safety, pleasure. Many clients have said it almost feels like a whole body orgasm. Many have said in session, ‘I feel exactly where I am supposed to be.. I found exactly what I’ve been searching for”. You’ll notice in the footages that many clients are smiling, knowing they are enfolding and integrating past traumas and experiences of overwhelming pain.
Is treatment safe whilst in pregnancy?
Yes! Whatever systematic state mam is in, biochemically and neuro-hormonally, be sure baby is also feeling this. Anything mam has flushing around the system, and in the blood stream, is fed into baby via the placenta and umbilical cord. Neuroscienctically, this is how babies are created and developed into a neurobiology that is imbalanced and dysregulated also. The best thing you can do for baby is to self regulate, so that they too can regulate, and have a better chance at life in the external word.

Danielle has worked with many women pre and post natal. Firefly Somatics™ client Roisin photographed below, who is mam of two and a physiotherapist. was having somatic therapy with Danielle up to month 8. Her first pregnancy was traumatic, so on her second one she decided to use somatic healing and nervous system regulation practice to help her calm and ease into birth number 2.

Firefly Somatics™ client photographed below worked with Danielle for 5 months post natal, to ease post natal depression and to help her body come back into energetic balance. She was already a mother of one and a Maternity Nurse. She struggled with post natal depression on her first pregnancy which led her to Danielle where she had support in place to help her in mind, body and spirit after the birth of baby two.

Childbirth is beautiful and miraculous. But no one ever talks about how invasive it is on the mother, on all levels. It causes a multitude of issues to the mind and body, and most mothers are left with zero after care or support in how to navigate a mind and body that will have changed drastically from childbearing and birth.
Are there side effects to treatment?
Yes! And it is to be cognisant of this, while it is also outlined in our waiver form.
It is very common that clients will experience various immediate psychological responses to the approaches employed in treatment. It does this as a means of cellular ‘mopping up’ and somatic discharging. Essentially, anything that is broken down and processed, must be filtered out of the system. You can be experiencing these physiological symptoms for 1-3/4 days post treatment. Light bruising is common post treatment, due to the neuromuscular techniques employed.

It is common that through nervous system recalibration, clients undergo regular somatic clearings as the nervous system tapers off out of stress response. The frequency at which this occurs depends on the capacity at which you are sitting into vagus practice. Usually clients somatically clear every 3 to 5 weeks when following the The Vagus Nerve Mastery Programme. Symptoms will appear before they ease, so please do not panic. You are safe. Trust your body and its ability to cleanse itself, it knows what it is doing.
The body can somatically clear to realign in many ways, including:
- Involuntary shaking and somatic releasing
- Catharism and Emotional Releasing
- Slowing down through signs of fatigue, lethargy, tiredness
- Increased or lowered bowel movements, with sometimes blood appearing in faeces
- Increased sweating, through hot and cold sweats
- Skin breakout e.g. spots, hives, rashes
- Increased regular urinary action, with sometimes blood appearing in urine
- Various old emotions (energy in motion) and memories (both of pain and pleasure) resurfacing
- Increased REM action and ‘unusual dreams’; Increased NREM sleep ie deeper sleeps, or sleeplessness (this is subjective)
- Cranial pressure and headaches
- Body discomfort, dull muscle pain, body aches, joint pain, muscle cramps
- Desire to withdraw from friends and family, to self cocoon
- Nausea due to digestive system healing, decreased hunger, heartburn
- Flu like symptoms e.g. phlegm coming up off lungs, body aches, sinus irritation
- Ringing in the ears
- Increased saliva production
- Tears appearing in eye ducts
- Changes in taste perception: taste perception, informed by sensory detection, can change with vagal stimulation. The vagus nerve has a role in taste sensation, as it carries afferent fibres from the root of the tongue and epiglottis. The facial nerve innervates the anterior two thirds of the tongue, the glossopharyngeal nerve innervates the posterior one third of the tongue, and the vagal nerve carries taste information from the back part of the mouth, including the upper third of the esophagus. Clients sometimes experience metallic tastes.
- Menstrual cramping increased
- Low libido and desire to withdraw from sexual engagement
- Decreased cravings for sugar and salt
How is Firefly Somatics™ and The Firefly Method® different from other alternative healing practices?”
While the likes of Reiki is a gentle, energy-based modality that channels universal energy to support relaxation and balance, we operate on a deeper, multi-dimensional level, working actively with the subconscious mind, somatic system, viscera and tissue, vagus nerve and nervous system. Unlike Reiki, which is primarily a passive energy session, we employ a fully embodied and integrative approach, combining scientifically grounded techniques with energetic practices to create profound and lasting change.
We work directly with stored trauma in the mind and body, and nervous system dysregulation, accessing both the limbic and somatic memory systems to release old patterns. Neuromuscular and neuromechanical techniques address tension, fascial adhesions, and structural imbalances, while vagal nerve toning and nervous system regulation actively support autonomic balance and resilience to stress. Clients engage with Neuroplasticity, which allow the subconscious and unconscious mind to update old trauma patterns, forming healthier neurological pathways.
Energy realignment, chakra mobilisation, and Kundalini-informed practices are woven into the work, but always integrated with the physical and somatic components, rather than functioning as a standalone energy transmission.
Our methodology is physical, active, embodied, and personalised, giving clients the tools to process, release, and integrate at the emotional, physiological, neurological, and energetic levels.
The Firefly Method® is designed to create long-term transformation, addressing the root causes of imbalance rather than only offering momentary relaxation or energetic tuning. It is for individuals seeking deep, sustained change in their mind, body, and nervous system.
When is the best time to do my Vagus Nerve practise?
When it suits you! You are going to Nervous System school, repatterning and retraining a system that has been working off subconscious and unconscious patterned programming for many years. It is going to take time and patience to reorganise the neural information that your body is familiar with. The best time to sit into practise is first thing in the morning and right upon bed time, when the subconscious is most impressionable. Usually clients prefer upon bed time the most appealing as activating before bed will induce your relaxation response, slow down your brain waves, slow down the functionality of various biological organs that have been ‘up’ all day (e.g. heart, breathing rate, urinary tract) and signal the digestive system to come online. Clients report having deep sleep cycles and minimal REM as a result of activation before bed.
Why am I so tired from my Vagus Nerve Practise?
Tiredness is very common and is symbolic of a nervous system in a process of recalibration to regulation. After years of dysregulation, the nervous system, immune system and neuroendocrine system are going to actively find a healthier, more calibrated baseline to operate from. Essentially, the neurobiological system is going to ‘come down’ from being wired to safety or survival states of responsive awareness. The ‘come down’ feels much like a hangover, so to speak. Tiredness will be induced via the Parasympathetic Nervous System, of which the vagus nerve controls and branches into. Tiredness is to be absolutely expected and you must flow with the flow of your system.
How do I know my practise is working for me and my Nervous System is healing?
You will begin to see and feel autonomic changes occurring within your system. This may look, sound and feel like (but not limited to):
- Less anxious, stressful and fidgety
- Ruminating thoughts dissipating with more ‘positive’ looped thoughts occurring
- Not as hypo or hypervigilant
- Better sleep and higher HRV levels
- Mood elevated and better focus
- Lowered physiological symptoms including less muscular tension, eased bracing and holding patterns
- New sensations felt in the body implicitly
- Changes to behaviours with old dysfunctional behaviours not as prevalent
- Better boundaries with self and with people
- Old coping mechanisms not needed anymore (e.g. drugs, alcohol)
- Feeling more connected to emotions, body and sensations, environment and surroundings
- Less pain, tension and rigidness in the body with a feeling of more ease and openness
- Lowered inflammation levels
- Lowered cravings for caffeine, salt, sugar and refined carbohydrates
- Improved digestion, stool movement and stomach acid levels
- General sense of calm and peace
- Old stressors and triggers not as prevalent or may have disappeared
- Ability to sit still and be present, less antsy and ‘wired and tired’
- Changes to sensory organs – changes in taste receptivity, sight, hearing, skin
These are some of the most common reports from clients, while there are many more.
What is the difference between in person and online sessions?
Both Psychosomatic Therapy and ERT are available in in-person and online formats, with each offering distinct advantages.
In-Person Sessions:
- Allow for full hands-on somatic work in psychosomatic therapy (fascial release, neuromuscular techniques, biodynamic bodywork).
- For ERT, in-person sessions include gentle physical guidance and direct energetic facilitation.
- Typically longer: around 90 min to 2 hours for psychosomatic therapy and 90 minutes for ERT.
- Provide the opportunity for the therapist to respond to subtle physical and energetic cues in real time.
Online Sessions:
- Focus on guided energy work, nervous system regulation, chakra alignment, and somatic awareness exercises.
- Offer flexibility and accessibility for clients unable to attend in person.
- Slightly shorter sessions: approximately 75–90 minutes, tailored for online delivery.
- Allows Danielle and her Coach’s to work with clients worldwide – Danielle has reached clients in Canada, the USA, Australia, Mexico, and across Europe, sharing her method effectively at a distance.
- Maintain the integrity and effectiveness of the therapy, giving clients tools and support to integrate the benefits into their daily life.
Is an online experience as effective as in person?
The Firefly Method® is designed to support people near and far, helping clients heal on a neurological and cellular level, no matter where they are in the world. Danielle has created a multi-dimensional system that allows her to guide clients into their neural pathways from anywhere.
Many people ask if online work is as effective as in-person. The answer is yes — it’s just different. The most obvious difference is the absence of physical touch. However, online sessions remain highly effective, offering a unique opportunity to develop self-accountability and take ownership of your own healing.
During an online session, you will be guided from the comfort of your home to:
- Access your nervous system’s innate wisdom.
- Activate the Vagus Nerve according to The Firefly Method®.
- Engage in guided self-myofascial release, active mobility, and biodynamic exercises tailored to your body’s needs.
- Participate in protocols designed to recall and reimprint patterns, supporting nervous system recalibration.
- Receive intuitive, facilitator-guided tools specific to your session and needs.
Online work also serves as a gateway to deeper in-person sessions, preparing the nervous system for more intensive hands-on work. Many clients have started online and later transitioned to in-person sessions — and vice versa. Danielle has successfully guided clients all over the world, including Canada, the USA, Australia, Mexico, and across Europe. This flexibility highlights the versatility and accessibility of The Firefly Method®, making it suitable for anyone, anywhere, regardless of their stage on the somatic healing journey.
Do you work with minors?
Absolutely! If you visit Danielle’s biography, you will read that she is a qualified Secondary School Teacher, RSE trained, and SEN Trained with 15 years experience working with children and teens, including those with ASD and Autism. She is a registered teacher, with an active Teaching Council Registration Number which also includes up to date Garda Vetting. She has up to date Police Clearance, for international clients. Coach Amy has up to date Garda Vetting. These can be asked for upon request, if needed.
Danielle has facilitated clients as young as 10 years of age thus far. She has worked with teens with mental health issues, STD issues, sexual abuse cases, to name a few.
In order to facilitate a child or teen under the age of 18, it would require:
- Signed Parental /Primary Caregiver consent – there is an option on the various waivers prior to session, allocated to caregiver(s) where you extend written consent for your child
- All various forms must be filled in coherently and accurately by the main caregiver(s), and any input from the child would be fantastic
- If under 16, the child must be accompanied by the caregiver(s), to the appointment location and collected on allocated finishing time
Do you work with individuals who are Neurodivergent?
Danielle, has lengthy experience working with individuals with ASD. She is a fully qualified Special Education Teacher, holding a Post Graduate in Special and Inclusive Education, certified with DCU in 2021. Within this two year study, she specialised in modules pertaining to Autism, Dyslexia, and, Social, Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties. While she worked as a Resource Teacher for many years in a mainstream setting, she later held a Class Teacher post at the CRC Scoil Mochua and at St Paul’s Special School, a school directly for children and adolescents with ASD. She is highly equipped with knowledge, experience and wisdom in relation to ASD and Autism (both non ambulant and non verbal). She has facilitated many clients with Neurodivergence diagnosis.
Do you work with men?
YES! Danielle has worked with a boy as young as 10 to a grandfather the age of 66. I work with anyone who wants to do the inner work, regardless of gender, orientation, sexual preferences, age, location, ailments. The reality however is that men are not as receptive and open to doing the work, as women are. 90% of my client cohort is female. This due to a number of socio-cultural and ancestral reasons, stemming from deep rooted trauma and Epigenetics.
Men have been conditioned to believe that emotionality, softness, being vulnerable and sharing how you feel, is “weak”. A “real man” doesn’t cry, right? This has been passed down through generations, continually programming and attuning the collective. You have to “man up, work hard, earn the dollar, get the woman and car, build muscles so you look like a man, suck it up”. As a result we have little boys who are emotionally stunted, in grown male bodies. On the other side of the coin, we have stunted women who are operating in their masculine energies, also with hurt inner child.
This is the state of a dysfunctional (and usually dysregulated) man who isn’t connected to his inner divine state. He is operating from childhood neurodevelopmental patterns, navigating life through survival response and base chakra. It’s not his fault, as he too never had an empowered male(s) to show him the way into alignment and purpose.
Do you offer training to become a Firefly Coach?
While Danielle has trained Coach Amy, at present, a public training course is not available. In diving timing, Danielle plans to create a Firefly Academy consisting of a 2 year course, where health care practitioners and alternative health professionals can train to become a Firefly Coach. In year 1, you will delve into your own Psychosomatic Healing process following all of the various steps applied within The Firefly Method®. You will be brought through, A Journey of Higher Conscious Awakening Programme, a 12 month programme geared at your own personal healing. How can you guide other with integrity and knowing, if you have no awareness in your own body of what the process looks, sounds and feels like? You have to experience it first within you, so that you can help others feel safe in the process of unravelling.
In year 2, practical training will commence where you will learn all of the various Psychosomatic Techniques employed through The Firefly Method®. At the end of year 2, you will become a qualified and affiliated facilitator, and will join the Firefly Team.
